Blue Blooded People

Have you ever wondered if there are people in this world who have blood running through their bodies, which is not red in colour? It sounds strange, and horrifying at the same time, isn't it? But yes, 'Blue-Blooded People' exist in this world!

Is their blood actually blue in color? No. It's red only. So why this interesting phrase 'blue-blooded people'? And who are these people?

Well, according to our human anatomy, we, humans, have two types of blood vessels, spread throughout our body: arteries and veins. Arteries carry oxygenated blood (red in color), while veins carry deoxygenated blood (blue in color). Arteries are situated deeper in our bodies, while veins are a little superficially placed comparatively.

Europeans generally have extremely fair complexion. And due this, the veins lying underneath their skin are quite visible, giving the illusion of blue blood flowing through their body. Hence, the term "blue-blooded people" was coined.

This makes me think about all the kinds of blood in this world flowing through innumerable species living in this planet. Some are red, some are white, some are green, some are yellow, some are purple, and yes, some are even blue!

So, not just the europeans are blue-blooded, some animals are actually blue-blooded.

If you liked my article, mention it in the comments. I will discuss about the different colors of the blood in my next article.
